Optical Disc drives does not always read or record with same type of discs, but from many different makers. Therefore, there exhibits certain differences between each disc. The specification of a disc highlighted that there is a range for rotating unbalance. So, discs themselves are not perfect in their own nature. When that disc is inserted in a ROM drive, the drive and the disc will be spinning in an unbalanced manner. Thus, creating vibration, which is also related to the spinning speed. As a result, when it is spinning at high speed, the vibration will become severe. When vibration becomes too vigorous, the Servo Control System will also fail to read and record data. Meanwhile, we can also feel the vibration and noise from outside the ROM drive.
In order to overcome high speed Optical Disc drive’s vibration, ASUS Optical Disc Drive has applied Double Dynamic Suspension System (DDSS II) to reduce the vibration level and hence increase the effective range of Servo Control System. Thus, the Optical Disc drive will perform efficiently even at high speed, and meanwhile, reduce the vibration and noise level from the outer casing.
The top-left of the illustration above shows the traditional method of Single Suspension System by letting the Traverse suspend to the Loaderï¼›the top-right depicts ASUS DDSS II system which allows the Traverse to connect the suspension system on Dynamic mass. The Dynamic mass acts as a suspension absorber for transferring partial vibration from Traverse to Dynamic mass. Meanwhile, it will provide better anti-vibration result. The result can be seen on the bottom part of illustration. The bottom left of the graph shows the vibration transfer function of Traverse due to spin, the blue line represents the reaction done by traditional single layer anti-vibration system while the yellow line is the reaction done by ASUS DDSS II system. Although, the yellow line show the vibration value higher than the traditional suspension system on the right of the graph, but the spinning speed has already surpassed the default working speed. Hence, ASUS DDSS II is much more efficient than traditional vibration system. The bottom right of the graph also showed ASUS DDSS II anti-vibration system is more effective in vibration transfer function of outer case.
